Starting a new medicine can sometimes feel confusing or worrying. At Wellbeing Pharmacy, we provide the free NHS New Medicine Service (NMS) to give you extra help and support when you’re prescribed a new medicine for certain long-term conditions.
What is the New Medicine Service?
The NMS is a free NHS service offered by our pharmacists to help you get the most out of your new treatment. It involves one-to-one conversations where we answer your questions, check how you’re getting on with the medicine, and provide tailored advice and support.

Which medicines are included in this service?
The NMS covers new medicines prescribed for certain long-term conditions, including:

Asthma and COPD (lung conditions)

Type 2 diabetes

High blood pressure

Heart conditions (such as those treated with blood thinners or cholesterol medicines)

Conditions requiring antiplatelet or anticoagulant medicines
How does the service work?

Sign up – When you collect your new medicine, our pharmacist will explain the service and invite you to take part.

Initial consultation – Within the first week of starting your new medicine, we’ll arrange a short conversation (in person or by phone) to see how you’re getting on.

Follow-up consultation – After 2–3 weeks, we’ll check in again to review your progress, answer further questions, and provide ongoing support.

Referral if needed – If we spot any issues, we can liaise with your GP to adjust your treatment if necessary.
